Sure, cult films don't generally have the production values of the standard Hollywood fare. But freedom from mainstream dollars means freedom of expression, too, and with the lineup of films at the 2nd Arizona Underground Film Fesitval, you'll hear all sorts of voices you won't at the multiplex.

Some of these voices will be screaming—you would shout, too, if you were being chased by sex-crazed zombies or serial killers—because fest director David Pike has been sure to program plenty of horror films. You'll also get documentaries, animation and narratives, plus, new this year, exploitation films.

Held at four venues—Loft Cinema, The Screening Room, Crossroads Festival and the Red Room—this fest isn't for the timid. It's for the underground.

If you missed last month's Arizona Underground Film Festival, here's your chance to see one of the fest's best. Based on a manga by Shungiku Uchida, this slapstick horror film is set in a Tokyo high school for Japan's teenage social misfits. Co-directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura ("Tokyo Gore Police") and Naoyuki Tomomatsu ("Eat the Schoolgirl").
