The worst: "Scary Movie 2" (2001)
When the first “Scary Movie”—a parody of “Scream” that shocked audiences with its NC-17-baiting sexual gags—became a surprise hit, director Keenen Ivory Wayans (TV’s “In Living Color”) rushed a sequel into production for release the following summer. The hectic speed is sadly evident in an ineptly made riff on the haunted-house subgenre that feels as if it was made by people who have never seen a good haunted-house movie. Anna Faris retains her killer timing as dim heroine Cindy, but what can be said for a sequel that confuses comic novelty with giving the haunted house’s creepy butler (Chris Elliot) a deformed tiny hand?
