Somerset flies a little too close to the sun. He’s a wise and poetic cop who becomes so transfixed on his target that he starts losing his soul to the case. Working with his junior partner (Brad Pitt), Somerset realizes that a serial killer is using his crimes as a sermon. In a bid to understand the twisted psyche, Somerset enters the mind of the beast. When the maniacal preacher destroys his partner, all Somerset can do is watch. He has come to understand the killer’s design, but has been unable to prevent any crimes from happening. Somerset is a good man, but the bad guy wins.
