You can step right back into Tucson's past just by stepping into the Depot... if you can imagine it bustling with people.
The building was built in 1907 and restored to its 1941 appearance in 2004, at a cost of about $2.8 million. It's well worth seeing. Out back you'll find old #1673, built in 1900 by the Schenectady Locomotive Works, and you can look at it up close on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. It traveled a million miles before being retired in 1955. There's also a life-sized bronze sculpture of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday waiting for the train, guns in hand.
Another feature is the small but nice Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, also on the premises. You can see everything well in an hour or less. No admission charge, but donations are gratefully accepted.
