But why? Hinds hasn't really said much about the tattoo, but here's Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor talking about it in an interview with Metal Edge magazine: "So he was in Hawaii, surfing, and hanging out with some friends that live there and I’m not exactly sure what it means." Hey, countless Hawaii visitors over the years have gotten a little too into the Mahalo spirit—it's just that most of them settle for turtle tattoos on their arms. When you're the lead guitarist in a prog-metal band, we guess the shark's teeth pattern on your face is the way to go. But we're with David Letterman on this one; he indirectly called Hinds "frightening" when the band appeared on the "Late Show" earlier this year. Don't hurt us, Brent!
