Brooklyn Pizza Company

This pizza joint may steal its energy from the sun, but the folks here produce the gelato themselves. The solar-powered restaurant on Fourth Avenue prepares the Italian treat in a variety of flavors, including one they call “pocolatte,” which has less cream than a typical gelato. (All are $2.50 a pint.)
Gelato is typically healthier than American ice cream, with less cream and, subsequently, less fat. The “nocciola” (chocolate hazelnut) gelato pictured here tastes purer and less diluted than your average ice cream scoop. Or, go dariy-free with one of Brooklyn's Italian ices (mango, strawberry, lemon, cappuccino).
