Legend has it that El Charro’s founder, Monica Flin, invented the chimichanga in the 1920s when she dropped a burro into a deep fryer. It’s a debatable subject, but they claim it on their menu nevertheless. Whatever, their chimis are delicious along with the umpteen other dishes that cater to the diets of all diners. Located in the home that was built by the family’s patriarch in the 1890s, El Charro’s building and décor alone makes it a destination. There is also a lovely outdoor patio area – from which you can see their famous carne seca drying – and a cozy bar, Toma, that has happy hour Mon.-Fri. 3 p.m.-6 p.m.
